It is our great pleasure to announce the program and invite you to the 3rd Nottingham Image Analysis Training School (NITS) to be held at the University of Udine in Italy in June 2011. The NITS event is being organized by the Dept. of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Udine, with the support of the EU COST Action IC0604 "European Telepathology Network", and of The University of Nottingham (United Kingdom). A world class faculty will be present to provide training in the use of image analysis in Pathology and there will opportunities to develop collaborative links in an informal and relaxed setting.

Pathology lies at the very centre of disease diagnosis and tissue based research. The advent of high quality scanners and digitization of images has opened up the gateway to a whole series of new and exciting possibilities within both the diagnostic and research fields. The purpose of the training school is to help participants understand the true potential as well as the limitations of computerized image analysis. A mixed format of formal lectures and "hands on" practical session will be used and all participants will be expected to bring a laptop.

NITS is aimed at both Pathologists, Laboratory Technicians, Biologists and Computer Scientists, in order to foster collaboration and cross-fertilization that are fruitful for this highly interdisciplinary field.

The school is organized just before the 25th Adriatic Society of Pathology Congress, which takes place in Duino, close to Udine, on 25-26 June 2011; you may want to join the two opportunities in a single trip.

The School is locally organized by the dept. of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Udine, and under the patronage of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.

We look forward to meeting you in Italy in 2011!

With warm regards,

Vincenzo Della Mea (University of Udine)
Mohammad Ilyas (University of Nottingham)
Marcial GarcĂa Rojo (Chair, COST Action "European Telepathology Network")
