Introduction

Image analysis in Pathology incorporates a variety of steps including capture of digitised images, data retrieval and viewing and meaningful analysis of the digitised images. Each step carries a variety of technical challenges which, if they can be overcome, opens up a range of possibilities which will improve Pathology diagnosis and research. Every person has different requirements and expectations of image analysis – from use of the technology as an alternative viewing method to the microscope through to sophisticated mining of multispectral images.

The aim of the training school is to allow participants to learn about the principles image analysis through a series of lectures and practical sessions led by an international faculty of pathologists and computer scientists. In addition to that, some case studies will be presented involving commercial software and systems, to cover the whole range of possibilities provided by image analysis technology.

The School takes the name after the University of Nottingham dept. of Pathology, where the training school has been initially started. The first edition web site is here; the second edition, held in Dubingiai, Lithuania, can be found here.
